Here at FAD Foundation, the Office of Refugee Support & Resettlement (ORSR) helps newly arrived Refugees and Immigrants to maximize their potential in Canada by supporting, guiding and linking them to critical resources and opportunities available that assist them in becoming fully integrated, confident, productive and upright members of Canadian society.
A Refugees is a person who is outside his or her country of origin for reasons of feared persecution, conflict, generalized violence, or other circumstances that have seriously disturbed public order and, as a result, require international protection. The refugee definition can be found in the 1951 Convention and regional refugee instruments, as well as UNHCR’s Statute.
Almost 70 million worldwide people have been forcibly displaced from their homes; with over a half of them being women and children because of persecution, conflict, wars, famine, drought, violence, or human rights violations.
Persecution, famine, war, violence and political intolerance have driven millions to seek refuge elsewhere, causing the largest global refugee crisis since the end of World War II.
The needs of refugees and immigrants range from basic shelter, medical treatment, trauma, food and water to psychosocial support and ultimately resettlement. Although less attention is given to this crisis, the number of unsettled refugees is on the rise globally.
Each day, about 30,000 people are forced to leave their homes, settlements or countries because of conflict and oppression.
Most African refugees come from Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Uganda and Central African Republic
Refugee children are five times more likely to be out of school than the global average if not supported. This in turn has forced youths to join armed rebellions with a false hope of success once they get into power.
About 10,000 refugees and migrants have miserably died or gone missing and been unaccounted for while trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea to reach the European shores.
FAD Foundation brings together a wealth of experience in its focus on supporting refugees from Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Uganda & the Central African Republic plus any other African Countries that come to North America (Canada & USA).
